Rudi Ekmen, the esports player from Club Brugge and Status Pro Esports, won the ePro League on April 27th. In the quarterfinal, he defeated Matthax from Cercle Brugge 6-3. Ekmen quickly took a 4-1 lead, largely thanks to his effective corners. Although Matthax reduced the deficit to 4-3, Ekmen ultimately managed to control the game and secure the victory.
In the semifinal, Ekmen faced Jordi from KVC Westerlo. Once again, Ekmen took the lead early on from a corner. After a tense first half that ended 2-2, Ekmen pulled away in the second half to a comfortable 6-2 win.
In the final, Ekmen was up against Kinane Al Nabhani, the champion from Union St Gilloise. After a very tight first match, which Ekmen won 1-0 in the 92nd minute, he also convincingly won the second match. This crowned Ekmen as the new Belgian champion.
"After being eliminated in the semifinals for the past 2 years, it was time for that title. Many people know how hard I've been working for this day in and day out," said Rudi after winning the final.
By winning the title, Ekmen has qualified for the group stage of the eChampions League in London on May 11-12. Here, he hopes to advance to the knockout stage later in May. He has also qualified for the play-ins, the World Cup qualifiers, where he hopes to secure his spot at the World Cup.
