Status Pro Sport are excited to share that Ofosu Boakye has officially signed his first professional contract with Go Ahead Eagles. The 17-year-old forward has committed to a one-year deal at De Adelaarshorst, running through mid-2026, with an option to extend for another year. Boakye has been part of the club’s youth setup and recently made the jump to train with the senior squad. After showing strong performances with the U21 team, he earned his opportunity with the first team—and made the most of it.
“I’ve played for the U18 and U21 sides,” Boakye said. “When the first team needed another striker, I was called up. The style of play is a bit different, but I adjusted quickly and enjoyed proving myself. I think I did pretty well. The team welcomed me right away—it’s a really close-knit group.” Boakye describes himself as a all-round striker. “My biggest strengths are my speed and physicality. I play with confidence and always look to score,”.
Originally from Ghana, Boakye moved to the Netherlands with his parents when he was 15. “Back in Ghana, I was always playing football—it’s a huge part of our culture. After moving here, I started playing for DTA Fortius in Amsterdam. A scout from Go Ahead Eagles noticed me, and Eric Whittie, the Head of Youth Development, really believed in me. It feels great to prove him right.” Though the interview was in English, Boakye threw in some Dutch word. “I’ve taken Dutch lessons three times a week for a few years. I don’t have as many classes now, but I understand Dutch pretty well and can speak it too.”
Head coach Paul Simonis shared his thoughts: “Ofosu is a hardworking, humble young man who made a strong impression during training. He’s the kind of player who stays after practice to put in extra work. Plus, his smile always brings good energy to the group.” Meanwhile, Eric Whittie added, “Jeroen Spies (U21 coach) and I saw him in a training session about a year and a half ago, and after just ten minutes we said, ‘We’ve got to bring him in.’ He’s such a natural talent. I’ll never forget what his dad said: ‘If you believe in him, I’ll do everything I can to support his journey.’ And he really has. This contract is a great reward for all of Ofosu’s effort, and it’s been amazing to see how well he’s fit in with the team.”
